Editing Services<\/span><\/h2>\n

Have you written a book? Are you thinking of writing a book? If you have completed, or are embarking on a major writing project, a dissertation or thesis, a lengthy article, your first or next novel, or a non-fiction work on your specialist subject, and whether you plan to self publish, or pitch to an agent or publishing house, you\u2019ll need an editor.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve written several books, and although I am an editor, I still use an editor myself. Because however good you are at your subject, however well-written your book is, however great your talent, you need a fresh eye to oversee what you’ve written.<\/p>\n

A good editor can do any or all of the following things:<\/p>\n

  • Talk through your plans, how you plan to structure your writing, what its target readership is, and how you\u2019d like to see it in print (or online).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      \n
    • Encourage you to work through the plan to create a well structured, well-paced book, which will impress readers and potential publishers alike.<\/li>\n
    • Encourage you throughout the process, working with you on plot, characterisation, consistency, accuracy, research, draft and redraft.<\/li>\n
    • Help you keep going, even when you’re tired, bored, discouraged, too busy, and unable to see where you’re headed.<\/li>\n
    • Proofread and copy-edit, with an extremely high degree of accuracy, however demanding your potential audience.<\/li>\n
    • Advise on pitching techniques and development of your manuscript to make sure it impresses when you move forward with it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      I\u2019ve written a few novels, and a couple of non-fiction titles. I’ve also advised a number of people as they’ve gone through the whole process. Most recently, I\u2019ve been the editor on a self-help cancer manual, the illustrated diary of a motorbike road trip from Bristol to Afghanistan, and a retirement planning guide written by an independent financial adviser for people hoping to retire to Spain. I\u2019m currently advising a thriller writer on his first book. I\u2019ve self published several of my own books, so I know how that feels, and I’ve picked up a lot of tips and hints along the way.

      I\u2019m also an experienced copywriter, and an academic researcher, and although I can’t promise you’ll get an agent or a publisher, and I can’t write your book for you, I can give you the best support as you do it.<\/div>\n<\/td>\n
